Adventure World theme park in Perth, Australia, opened a new, record-breaking waterslide on October 9.

Kraken, a uniquely tailored ProSlide Tornado 60 design, has staked its claim as the tallest, steepest and longest funnel waterslide in the world.

The ride drops 30m along a 260m course, with each four-person raft negotiating over 150m of almost pitch-black twists and turns, including a heart-pounding drop and a 360-degree twist, before dropping 8m almost vertically into the massive 60ft funnel -about the height of a six-storey building.

At this drop point riders can reach speeds of up to 6.7 metres per second. They experience moments of zero gravity and will feel they are just about to tip before gravity pulls them back to the bottom and up the other side and finally through the dark outrun flume and into the splash landing pool.

Adventure World CEO Mark Shaw said the slide was chosen for a number of critical reasons. “All of our attractions now and going forward have to have high hourly capacity so as to keep queues as short as possible,” he said. “This slide can take 600 guests per hour due to its four-person raft.

Shaw added: “It’s the second time in just three years that the park has invested in a world-class attraction. We’ll not only have the best rollercoaster in Australia, but I truly believe this new funnel waterslide will be recognised by many as the best waterslide experience in Australia.”
